You must take this into account when replacing the brake discs

When is it time to replace the brake discs?

The replacement of the brake discs is absolutely necessary under certain circumstances. This includes exceeding the wear limit. Brake discs have a defined minimum disc thickness that should never be undercut. If you have already driven more than 100,000 kilometers with the current discs, you should check their condition for wear. If the brake pads are replaced anyway as part of a workshop visit, the brake discs should be changed at the same time if necessary. This saves time and workshop costs.

A change can also be necessary after an extreme load. Emergency braking at high speeds can cause cracks or waves in the discs. Even driving downhill can sometimes heat up the steel so much that irregularities appear on the surface. Especially brake discs that have not yet been run in are sometimes deformed in places by the unequally distributed load effects.

How much do new brake discs cost?

The costs for replacing the brake discs vary greatly, depending on the version selected and the desired quality. Both solid panes and panes with internal ventilation are available. Some models also have holes or slits that transport heat and moisture better. This keeps the panes dry. Vehicle owners pay between 20 and 100 euros for brake discs. Don’t save in the wrong place, because high-quality brake discs make a significant contribution to your driving safety and also last longer. at Autoteileprofi.de you will find a large number of high-quality brake discs for your vehicle at fair prices.

Changing the brake discs yourself – follow these instructions

If you want to replace your brake discs at home, you should first know which wheels have brake discs attached to them. Because the front wheels use most of the energy to brake the vehicle, wear and tear is higher there. Therefore, some manufacturers only install brake discs on the front wheels. Once you have determined which wheels the discs are to be changed on, you must first loosen the screws on the wheels slightly before jacking them up. The mounting screw should remain tight during the entire replacement process. Otherwise, moisture could penetrate between the disc and wheel hub and promote rust.

If you cannot loosen the screws on the brake disc yourself, it is sometimes necessary to drill them out. Before installing the new washers, replace the bolts if they are too badly damaged. When fitting the new pane, note the running direction if necessary if it has internal ventilation. Thoroughly clean the wheel hub before use.

Any existing protective coatings can remain on the pane as protection against corrosion. They gradually wear off as you drive. After installation, first carefully check the brake function. Emergency braking should be avoided during the first rides with the new brake discs. If you notice any irregularities during the braking process, you should visit a workshop immediately.
